THREE-times Masters champion Phil Mickelson left it late, but will be chasing glory at the Aberdeen Asset Management Scottish Open at Castle Stuart this week.

Mickelson has been handed the sponsor's final invitation spot after he asked to compete following his failure to make the halfway cut in this week's PGA Tour event, the Greenbrier Classic.

Consecutive 71s in West Virginia prompted last year's joint Open runner-up to ask for a chance to shine in the Highlands from Thursday to Sunday.

Mickelson finished 58th at Castle Stuart last July, but in 2007 at Loch Lomond, was a whisker away from glory as he lost out on a play-off to Frenchman Gregory Havret.
