Inverness Caledonian Thistle picked up what could still prove to be a vital three points away at Greenock Morton.

It took Inverness just 77 seconds to break the deadlock when Cameron Harper sent a ball into the box to find Mckay unchallenged and he found the back of the net.

The visitors doubled their advantage 11 minutes before half time when they were awarded a free kick when Alex Samuel was fouled at the edge of the box.

McAllister's free-kick was on target and despite Morton goalkeeper Jamie MacDonald getting hand to the ball, he was unable to divert it away from the net.

Three players were yellow carded for the same incident just before half time in the Inverness box when James Carragher and Wallace Duffy were booked for Inverness and Tyler French received a booking for Morton over a foul that was committed in the Inverness box.

With further bookings for ICT's Cammy Kerr and Morton's Alan Power after the restart, the referee had a busier spell than either goalkeeper, but Caley Thistle soon tested out MacDonald again.

Morton's keeper was needed to save efforts from Mckay and Aribim Pebble as Inverness eased into the latter stages of the match with their two-goal cushion still intact.

Robbie Crawford just missed the target with a header inside the final 10 minutes to fire something of a warning shot, which was backed up when Morton had the ball in the back of the Inverness net on 90 minutes – only for the goal to be disallowed.

That was as close as Morton would come to a repsonse, with Inverness seeing out the 2-0 victory to claim an important three points to move within two points of Dunfermline in fifth spot in the Scottish Championship.
