Inverness Caledonian Thistle manager Duncan Ferguson believes that Cammy Kerr will add valuable experience in the Highland capital going forward.

The 28-year-old defender signed for Caley Thistle on loan until the end of the season yesterday afternoon, returning to a division he has won twice before with parent club Dundee.

Kerr came through the youth system at Dens Park, making 271 appearances for the Dark Blues and even getting his testimonial last November.

That is a big plus for Ferguson, who feels that Kerr brings something to the Inverness squad that it is currently lacking.

“Cammy has played at a higher level before,” the Caley Thistle manager explained.

“He’s had a fantastic career with Dundee where he’s been for his whole career.

“He’s an energetic player, a good defender, with good experience.

“He was available and we went for him. We’re really pleased to have him and he will add to the group.

“Cammy is a class act and he knows the division.

“He’s a very good player who will bring his experience to quite a young group.”

Following Kerr’s arrival, Caley Thistle also confirmed the loan signing of Jeremiah Chiloka-Mullen until the end of the season from Leeds United.

Chiloka-Mullen is a 19-year-old centre back, who has been a regular for Leeds’ under-23 side and has been capped for Scotland’s under-16s, under-19s and under-21s.

As the Inverness Courier went to print yesterday, Caley Thistle were on the brink of adding a third loan signing of the day, who was undergoing a medical.

Ferguson did not rule out even more recruits arriving in the Highland capital before next Thursday’s transfer deadline, but he also did not rule out more departures.

“I don’t have a number of signings in mind as such but if any quality players become available then we’re chasing them,” Ferguson explained.

“We want to add good players.

“If players are available and I can free up spaces and be a bit creative with the budget then we can be in the market for two or three players.

“There is always a possibility players might leave.

“I am happy with what I’ve got, but once you start bringing players in the squad becomes that wee bit bigger.

“In the main, one or two (more) might go out. I think we have moved five players out and - as it stands now - we have three in.

With Inverness currently sitting just one place outside of the relegation play-off, Ferguson will be desperate for all of his January signings to hit the ground running.

The bottom half of the Championship table in particular is extremely tight.

ICT currently sit three points off the bottom, but also just six points away from the final promotion play-off place going into the weekend.

That will make the trip to Raith Rovers, still challenging for the Championship title, all the more important for Caley Thistle to get a positive result in.

Austin Samuels is the only injury absentee due to miss the game, and Ferguson’s new signings could all feature at Stark’s Park.

The Everton and Newcastle legend is certainly hoping that some new faces can re-energise and re-focus his current squad, with added competition for places potentially leading to better levels in both training and matches.

“We feel the players who have come in on Thursday are good players,” he added.

“It keeps everyone on their toes, and hopefully you are stronger for it.

“We now prepare to face the second-best team in the division.

“It will be tough, but I have no problems with putting these new players in, if they are fit and ready.”
