Billy Dodds says Inverness Caley Thistle have to raise their performance level to give their fans something to cheer about tomorrow.

The Caley Jags follow up a disappointing evening away at Partick Thistle last Friday with a return to the Caledonian Stadium against Morton.

It had been a solid start to the campaign before the trip to Firhill, which put a dampener on the optimism surrounding the Highland capital.

Matches against Morton are often hard-fought affairs, too, with the exception of a dominant 6-1 win Inverness recorded at Cappielow Park last season.

The current campaign has already thrown up swings in performance levels.

ICT’s 4-1 win in their last home game, against Cove Rangers two weeks ago, showed what this group of players are capable of.

That is the kind of display Dodds ideally wants to see his side put in this weekend – but he would happily take three points by any means.

“I want more of the Cove performance, but you don’t always get that in this league,” Dodds explained.

“That Cove game set the standard, so we want to get there again. It’s great if we can play great football and we win by a few goals, but most weeks we’re going to have to dig it out.

“I’ll take a 1-0 as long as we’re competitive. If we sneak a win by the odd goal, I’ll be delighted, it doesn’t matter to me – most teams will say you just have to put a run together in this league and see where it takes you.

“Confidence comes from digging out a few results. Last year we beat Arbroath 3-0 then went to Raith and didn’t play particularly well, but we won 3-2. That propelled us on to another run.

“It’s not always about playing well, you just have to make sure you’re competitive and get results at the right times to grow confidence.

“That’s what a lot of teams in this league needs. We have a lot of young boys, but they’re good players, and I expect a real reaction on Saturday.”
