CLACHNACUDDIN manager Jordan MacDonald has hailed Martin Mackinnon as the best goalkeeper in the Highland League after he signed a new deal to remain with the club.

The 22-year-old has agreed to a contract extension with the Merkinch outfit which will keep him at the Lilywhites next season.

Mackinnon arrived at Clachnacuddin last season after leaving Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

During his time at Caley Thistle, he was sent on loan to Fort William and Buckie Thistle before making the permanent switch to Clachnacuddin.

MacDonald was delighted to maintain Mackinnon’s services, believing he is the best goalkeeper in the Highland League.

“I have never hidden the fact I think Martin is the best goalkeeper in the Highland League,” says MacDonald.

“My opinion hasn’t changed on him, so it is pleasing he has signed a deal.

“He is unbelievable and such a nice guy as well.

“He is a goalkeeper and he is mad as a hatter sometimes.

“But I think that all good goalkeepers are.”

In addition, defender Gary Warren has also signed a new deal to remain at Clachnacuddin.

MacDonald says Warren’s influence is as important off the pitch as well as on it.

He said: “To have Gary’s experience to help with the young boys on the pitch has been great.”

In addition, Clachnacuddin also welcomed back Harry Nicolson to the club from League of Ireland team Finn Harps.

The 22-year-old defender was previously on loan at Clachnacuddin in the 2021/22 season and MacDonald is glad to have him back.

He is set to make his debut against Banks O’Dee at Grant Street Park tomorrow afternoon.

“He is a great player and we kept in touch with Harry when he was away.

“Harry did have options because he is a quality player, so we are delighted to get him back.”

Clachnacuddin are scheduled to welcome back Calum Black and Paul Brindle for tomorrow’s game against Banks O’Dee.

Ben Cormack is also close to returning to full fitness, however tomorrow afternoon may be too soon for him to be considered for selection again.
