The North Kessock outfit produced an epic comeback coming from two goals down to win 3–2 in Orkney last Saturday.

Athletic were two goals down after 16 minutes with Orkney taking a commanding lead with strikes from Jason Scott and Owen Rendall.

But Athletic came storming back with strikes from Danni Bruce and Harry Shewan before Luke Mackay grabbed all three points in injury time.

Ross, who with his brother Andrew took the reins from former manager Jason Golabek in the summer, says it has been an encouraging start to the campaign and a good springboard in their bid to become a force in the division this season.

“It had been a rough pre-season which was stop start.

“But the way the team has started this season has been fantastic.

“To be 2–0 down in Orkney and come back the way we did meant the boys were fully deserved of their victory.

“It was a slow start from us and we did address a few issues at half time.

“But in the second half we were well on top.”
Inverness Athletic experienced a difficult campaign last season with only a late run of form seeing them avoid the wooden spoon, finishing ninth out of 11th place and three points off bottom.

Ross says they are setting their heights higher this season determined to finish above at least the bottom three.

“Anywhere higher than last season would indicate progress has been made at the club.

“We have a well established youth policy at the club and have been tapping into that.

“It has proven to be fruitful and have several former youth players now playing for us on a regular basis.”
