INVERNESS boxer Andrew Mackay will have to wait a little bit longer to get his second crack at a Scottish title with his opponent postponing the match with an injury.

With revenge on his mind Mackay will have been desperate to get a second attempt at the title after he was beaten by Ryan Collins in the summer when the contest was stopped at the end of round four after a clash of heads.

The bout has now been postponed to the start of next year with Mackay instead defending his British Challenge belt on November 5.

Writing on his Facebook page, Mackay said: “I am absolutely devastated to announce that I have been told by my management team that my much anticipated rematch with Ryan Collins for the Scottish lightweight title has been postponed due to his injuries.

“I know this is the fight everyone wants to see none more so than myself but I need to stay active while I wait for my revenge and instead I will now be defending my British challenge belt on November 5. Tickets will be £85 which includes a four course dinner and a stacked card which I will still be headlining.

“Obviously this is not the fight I was expecting or indeed hoping for but I’d rather my opponent be 100 per cent for the rematch so there is no excuses on the night. Hopefully Collins will resolve his issues as that’s the fight both myself and my brilliant fans are wanting, but whoever my opponent, I will be ready as always and in top condition.”

In the post, Mackay also spoke of the tragic passing of fellow boxer, Mike Towell.

“After the absolutely tragic, devastating recent events of the death of fellow professional Mike Towell, this will be my first time in the ring since that tragic night and it makes me realise how lucky I am to have my health, family and friends and puts everything into perspective,” he added.
