Malky Mackay has hit out at reports Ross County have submitted a bid for Cole Stockton.

The Staggies had been linked with a move for the Morecambe forward, who scored 26 goals across 50 appearances in all competitions last season.

However, County boss Mackay has denied any approach to Morecambe, now managed by former Staggies manager Derek Adams, has been made.

"I was bemused to see those reports," Mackay explained.

"I thought the reporter would have phoned me before deciding to run something like that, because it was news to me.

"We haven't put a bid in about Cole Stockton at all, we haven't even enquired about him, so maybe he should have asked me before doing a favour for the agent."

Finding form

While goals from attackers is something County would have liked to have seen much more of since Mackay took over in Dingwall, one player has certainly been doing his part lately.

Jordan White's first half header against St Johnstone took his tally to three in five, and if he needs an extra confidence boost ahead of facing next opponents Rangers he can look back to last season's games, where he scored in all four meetings.

Mackay puts his recent improvement in part down to the service provided by teammates, and is pleased to see White finally getting his due.

"Something we've been looking at is recognising and realising when good players get into certain areas, and letting them show their talent," Mackay reasoned.

"Over the last few games we've seen Victor (Loturi) in a wide area, Yan (Dhanda) in a wide area, Kaz(eem Olaigbe) and Owura (Edwards) getting into good areas and delivering the ball into good areas.

"If Jordan makes specific runs, there's a chance it's going to come off for him, and he's got three in five now and has been looking dangerous.

"He has always been a model pro since I got here, and last year he maybe didn't get the credit that Blair Spittal, Joe Hungbo and Regan Charles-Cook got because of their goalscoring.

"He was heavily involved in a lot of what they did though, so it's nice that he's getting a bit of reward for himself at the moment.

"It's interesting that he scores a lot against the Old Firm. His goal last year – albeit it was a small consolation at Ibrox – was as good a goal as I've seen."
