Roddy MacGregor feels like he is on the crest of a wave right now with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 19-year-old has featured in all but one of Caley Thistle’s matches in 2021/22, well on track to smash the 30 games he appeared in last season.

Playing alongside the experience of Sean Welsh, Michael Gardyne, Aaron Doran and Billy Mckay will help develop any young player, and getting time on the pitch to back that up and make an impact has MacGregor in a good place personally.

“It’s been great, I’ve learned a lot,” MacGregor explained.

“It’s always really positive vibes around the place during training, and I really feel like I’m learning a lot and enjoying my football right now. I’m really happy at the moment.

“We’ve got quite a big squad this year, so obviously I know I’m not going to be playing 90 minutes every week.

“There’s going to be competition for places, the squad is going to be rotated, and that’s the gaffer’s decision.

“People have just got to accept that if they’re not in the squad and try to get back in – that’s all you can do when you’re in a team that’s got good strength in depth.

“I’m just looking to stay in the team now hopefully.”

MacGregor will hope to keep his place for the Scottish Cup match against Morton tomorrow afternoon.

It is perhaps not the most inspiring of cup draws against a team in the same league as Inverness, but that means MacGregor is well aware of the threats Morton may pose.

“They’re a good side who have got some good players,” he insisted.

“They’re always really sound defensively. They’re organised most of the time, so we know it’s going to be a tough game here on Saturday.

“I wouldn’t say it’s easier because obviously they know our strengths as well.

“It matches in that way, but I suppose it’s maybe different to getting a lower league side when you’re expected to win.

“There’s pressure on any draw you get, so we’re just looking forward to the game.”
