IF she has not already done enough to secure her dream of playing in her home town against America in the Curtis Cup event next year, the Women’s Home Scottish Amateur Championship at Tain Golf Club in May 2012 will come too late for Kelsey MacDonald to stake a final claim for a place.

It is expected that the Ladies Golf Union will make a final shortlist of candidates in January for the Curtis Cup, which takes place at Nairn Golf Club between 8th and 10th June, 2012.

Because of the Ladies European Tour Qualifying School taking place at La Manga next month, officials delayed naming the preliminary squad until they know if two potential members — Pamela Pretswell and Kelly Tidy — have been successful in earning cards to take then on to the women’s professional tour.

Meanwhile MacDonald and her fellow Stirling University student Hannah McCook, from Abernethy, are getting ready to join other golf students on a trip to Florida in January for some warm weather training and to also compete in some events on the Women’s Orange Blossom Winter amateur tour.

It will be MacDonald’s third trip to Florida and McCook’s first with the university squad, who will be accompanied by their golf coach Lesley Mackay, originally from Golspie and a former Northern Counties champion.
