Alasdair Baird finished a point ahead of the field to secure victory at Loudoun Gowf (correct) Club in Ayrshire and will now progress on to the grand final at Gleneagles on Sunday 9th October.

The 16-year-old, who plays off a handicap of 12, made the long journey south after missing July’s regional final at Loch Ness Golf Club.

It was a worthwhile trip, however, as Baird, a protégé of PGA professional and Scottish Golf’s North Academy coach David Torrance, took first prize with a stableford tally of 40 points, one ahead of the host club’s Connor Mackay.

“I really wanted to get to the final, so it was very good to win and I’m really looking forward to going to Gleneagles,” said a delighted Baird, who had travelled to Ayrshire with fellow Nairn golfer Andrew Burgess, who also qualified.

“I wanted to play a new course and have a good game. The course was in great condition and the greens were holding the ball, which I thought was pretty useful.

“I’ve only ever played the Wee Course at Gleneagles, so it will be good to play the Queen’s Course.”
