Lochaber line up tough tests as shinty sides prepare for new season

WITH the start of the new shinty season only seven weeks away, many clubs are in the midst of their pre-season preparations.

Lochaber, with Ally Ferguson making a return to the managerial hot-seat, have lined up four tough challenge matches on consecutive weeks.

They start with a meeting with Caberfeidh on Saturday, January 31.

Derbies follow against Kilmallie on February 7 and Fort William seven days later.

Beauly will provide a stern test on February 21 to complete the Spean Bridge outfit’s preparations for their Orion Group Premiership campaign.

David Balharry heads up a new four-man management team at Strathglass, who get their pre-season under way with a visit from Caberfeidh on February 7.

Newtonmore have been invited to provide the opposition for the Murdo MacKenzie Memorial Cup at Cannich on February 14, whilst the annual MacDonald Cup challenge with Glenurquhart takes place at Drumnadrochit on February 28.

Glenurquhart, with Billy MacLean and Dave Menzies at the helm again for another season, have lined up a double header on February 14, with Skye’s first-team and reserves both travelling to Drumnadrochit for encounters with their Glen counterparts.

Lochcarron, prepare for the step up to North Division One with a trip to the Fife coast on February 14 where Aberdour are their hosts.

Two home fixtures follow for the Wester Ross men, with Lewis Camanachd being invited to play for the Roddy Blind Cup on February 21, then Skye reserves being visitors to Battery Park one week later.

Three Premiership sides, Kinlochshiel, newly-promoted Oban Camanachd and champions Newtonmore, feature on National Division Glasgow Mid Argyll’s four-match roster.

’Shiel travel to Peterson Park on February 7, with the Glasgow side heading to Badenoch seven days later to face Newtonmore.

Oban are last up on GMA’s schedule at Yoker on February 21.

Before these tests, Aberdour are their the opposition on January 31.
