Loch Ness cruising at the top of the North Caledonian League as they thrash Nairn County A at Fortrose

LOCH NESS remain four points clear at the top of the North Caledonian League after thrashing Nairn County A 7-1 at Fortrose.

The leaders proved no match for the Highland League colts team as they raced into a 5-1 lead at half time.

Calum Neil and Allan Macphee both scored twice before the break, with an own goal adding to their advantage.

Phil Macdonald added a sixth goal in the second half before Macphee completed his hat-trick.

Loch Ness have been in rampant form and remain undefeated in the division with eight out of nine wins.

Golspie Sutherland remain in second place with a 4-1 victory over Clachnacuddin A.

Sam Mackay returned to play for Golspie and gave them the lead with a thunderous 30-yard strike.

Striker Kevin Cairns doubled their advantage before half time.

The second half saw the Cairns brothers finish the game off as a contest, with Kevin scoring the third goal with an excellent finish and Billy scoring a well taken goal after excellent build up work.

But Clachnacuddin A were gifted an own goal with 10 minutes remaining to deny Golspie a clean sheet.

Third place St Duthus couldn’t get back to winning ways after being held to a 2-2 draw by Orkney at Grant Park in Tain.

Saints took a 2-0 lead through Jake Lockett scoring twice. But Orkney came storming back with Owen Rendall and James Pickles to rescue a point.

Inverness Athletic are now in fourth place after a 2-1 win over at Fort William.

Athletic took the lead through Connel Gresham but Fort William equalised through Amin Benyoucef.

Gresham then scored the winner in injury time as Athletic took all three points back home.

Halkirk United romped to a 5-1 victory over Bonar Bridge at Migdale.

Kyle Henderson scored twice to give Halkirk a 2-0 lead.

Kuba Koziol put Halkirk 3-0 up, with Adam Mackay pulling one back for Bonar Bridge on the hour mark.

But Koziol scored twice late on to complete his hat-trick and take all three points back to west Caithness.
