Loch Ness go seven points clear at the top of North Caledonian League with victory over Alness United

LOCH Ness moved seven points clear at the top of the North Caledonian League as they beat Alness United 3–2 at Fortrose.

It was the only game to take place in the North Caledonian League this week as extreme weather cancelled all other fixtures scheduled to take place.

Loch Ness took full advantage and went in front after 18 minutes when Steven MacDonald gave them the lead.

They doubled their advantage four minutes later when Josh Race found the net.

But Alness United reduced the deficit to one two minutes later through Jack Davison.

However, Ryan Ingram made it 3–1 seven minutes before half time to restore their two-goal advantage.

Loch Ness kept Alness United away from danger until three minutes into injury time when Michael McKenzie scored to set up a nervy finish.

But there was never enough time for Alness to find an equaliser as Loch Ness won their first game in three matches.

The win means Loch Ness are seven points ahead of Invergordon in second place, although the Ross-shire outfit do have a game in hand.

Loch Ness have five games remaining in the league and are favourites to win the match.

The other league match scheduled for last weekend between Golspie Sutherland and Orkney was postponed.

All three North Caledonian Cup league matches between Bonar Bridge against Thurso, Inverness Athletic against St Duthus and Halkirk against Invergordon were called off and will be rearranged.
