CHAMPIONSHIP side Livingston stand between Caley Thistle and a place in the quarter-finals of the Scottish League Cup following today's (Thursday's) draw at Hampden Park in Glasgow.

Inverness CT, who are the William Hill Scottish Cup holders, entered the fray along with Celtic, Aberdeen, Dundee United and all the second round winners.

John Hughes' Highlanders will be hoping they can find some much-needed form in the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership before their tie on September 22 or 23, having picked up two points in their opening five games of the season.

The Scottish Cup has historically been the better competition for ICT, although it was only a penalty shoot-out defeat by Aberdeen that denied them the League Cup in the 2014 final.

Last season's League Cup was a huge disappointment for Caley Thistle as they crashed out in the second round away to Championship side Rangers in a 1-0 defeat.

Livingston reached the third round after winning 3-2 at Championship rivals St Mirren on Tuesday night.

Today's draw was conducted by SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster, along with Pat Bonner – who won the trophy with Celtic in 1982 – and Sportscene host Jonathan Sutherland from BBC Scotland.

The full draw is: Kilmarnock v Hearts, Livingston v Inverness CT, Ross County v Falkirk, Rangers v St Johnstone, Celtic v Raith Rovers, Morton v Motherwell, Dundee United v Dunfermline Athletic, Hibernian v Aberdeen.

Ties will be played on September 22 and 23.
