Late show snatches victory from jaws of defeat for Inverness Athletic against Thurso

INVERNESS Athletic left it late to defeat Thurso 2-1 at North Kessock and move up to third place in the North Caledonian League.

Athletic looked like they were heading towards defeat five minutes from time when Robert Maclean’s 39th minute strike looked like being enough to give Thurso victory.

But Ryan Macleod scored the equaliser in the 85th minute, before finding the net again three minutes later to give Athletic victory.

The win means Athletic are only seven points behind leaders Loch Ness.

Despite not being in action this weekend, Loch Ness remain five points clear at the top of the table after they were thrashed 6-2 by Alness United at Dalmore Park.

Alexander Mackay scored a double to put Alness 2-0 up at half time, but Owen Harrold pulled one back for Golspie Sutherland just before half time.

Mikey Grimes restored Alness United’s two goal advantage in the 54th minute, but Miller Mackay’s goal on the hour mark for Golspie once again reduced the deficit to one.

However, Alness United went ballistic in the the final half hour.

Michael Mackenzie, Ryan McFee and Jude Fraser all finding the net to give the Ross-shire club all three points.

In the battle of the colts, Clachnacuddin A defeated Nairn County A 1-0 in Inverness.

Kai Reid scored with 16 minutes remaining to give them victory.

Halkirk United’s return to good form continued when they defeated Orkney 3-1 at Morrison Park.

All the goals came in the second half, with Kyle Henderson putting Halkirk in front in the 57th minute.

Chris Hellewell equalised for Orkney five minutes later, but an Alexander Mackay penalty followed by Henderson’s goal gave Halkirk all three points.

Meanwhile, Invergordon won the Football Times Cup when they defeated St Duthus 3-1.

Ken Morrison put Invergordon in the lead after five minutes, but Bradi Hulme equalised for Golspie seven minutes into the second half.

Two late goals from Andrew Miller gave Invergordon victory.
