Ross County goalkeeper Ross Laidlaw believes Staggies' backline are giving forwards an ever more solid base to build from after clean sheet earns a point against St Johnstone in Perth

Ross Laidlaw is confident Ross County’s growing strength and solidity will provide a platform for their attacking players to flourish.
The Staggies have so far netted just four goals in the Premiership, but there are signs the building blocks are being put in place for a more reliable rearguard.
Saturday’s 0–0 draw away to St Johnstone saw Kazeem Olaigbe strike the crossbar, while William Akio showed flashes of attacking promise.
Goalkeeper Laidlaw, in superb form so far this season, believes it is only a matter of time for the club’s attack-minded players.
“In the second half in Perth, we probably had the better spells,” Laidlaw, who made a terrific double-save at point-blank range, said.
“There was a spell of 15 to 20 minutes where we were on top, but I don’t think we created too many chances.
“It is a clean sheet away from home and we need to take the positives from that.
“It is just a case of the new boys getting fully used to how we do things. That will come. We saw last year how it came together when they got used to the system and how we want to play.”
Last season’s 61 goals against was the second worst in the top flight despite top six success, so Laidlaw is delighted with the progress in defence.
“Over the last few years, a big criticism of the team has been conceding too many goals,” he said.
“If we can start keeping more clean sheets and being hard to break down, that will be important, and playing with the same goalkeeper and back four does start to build that understanding and consistency.”
