SEAN Webb says Clachnacuddin’s shock win over Ross County in the North of Scotland Cup can turn their season around in the Highland League.

The Lilywhites knocked out the holders in a 2-1 quarter final victory at Grant Street Park to set up an all-Inverness clash against Caley Thistle on Wednesday, September 4 at the Caledonian Stadium.

After losing all four games in the Highland League, the caretaker manager said reaching the last four of the cup is a massive confidence boost ahead of their trip to Formartine United tomorrow.

“People on the outside would have said that this was an upset.

“Every game you go into you want to win and in an cup competition even more so.

“The players will hopefully take that performance into Saturday and it will give them a lift.”

Clachnacuddin took the lead 10 minutes before half time when James Beeston scored a free kick from 30 yards which sailed into the top corner beating County goalkeeper Tommy Dixon-Hodge.

But the Staggies levelled the match two minutes later when Davis Keillor Dunn beat goalkeeper Douglas Maclennan with a delightful chip from the edge of the box.

However Clach regained the lead eight minutes into the second half when Alasdair Gillies fired a low drive past Dixon-Hodge from 20 yards.

Webb praised the performance of his young players.

He said: “Ross Logan looked like he was enjoying football again and Alasdair Gillies played great as well.

“Playing against players their own age they looked comfortable against the opposition.”

Clach could be without midfielder Martin Callum and goalkeeper Douglas Maclennan tomorrow after both picking up knocks.

However, defender Martin MacDonald and midfielder John MacAskill are expected to return.
