Megan Keith will be heading to Australia later this month to take part in the World Cross Country Championships.

Keith's selection was confirmed by British Athletics earlier today, as the European Under-23 silver medallist makes the step up in age group at Bathurst.

It comes off the back of a triumph at the British Cross Challenge in Perth, which itself continued what has been a very strong winter season for the Edinburgh University student.

British Athletics say selection was based on a number of factors, including capability of team medal success, supporting senior athlete preparation for potential future success and providing opportunities for developing junior athletes.

Keith is one of two Scottish athletes in the squad, which also included under-20 athlete Hannah Ryding from Giffnock North.

Steve Vernon, world class programme endurance performance manager at UK Athletics said: “We are pleased to be taking this team to the World Athletics Cross Country Championships later this month. The event is a prestigious one in the athletics calendar, so we are delighted to have strong representation in every discipline in Australia.

“The World Cross Country Championships is a stepping stone towards success at future global track and field championships, and that is in line with the overarching Endurance strategy for UK Athletics.

"This will also be a fantastic development opportunity for many athletes, and important as we build towards future major Cross Country Championships, including the Worlds in Croatia next year.

“Bathurst will provide great experience to all those selected, and we look forward to seeing how they perform on the global stage.”

Joining Keith in the senior women's squad will be Abbie Donnelly (Lincoln Wellington), Amelia Quirk (Bracknell) and Poppy Tank (City of Plymouth).
