Julie makes history at world record bid

Veteran Inverness athlete Julie Wilson had reason to smile after she became a world record holder last week.

Along with team-mates Clare Barr, Yvonne Crilly and Fiona Matheson, she made history as she smashed the over-50 women’s 4x800m relay world record with a time of 10:19.68 on July 18.

That was despite the team’s admission that they rarely get the chance to train with relay batons, instead training individually.

After taking her place in the record books, Wilson (50) admitted she was struggling to put her achievement into words.
