ROSS County boss Derek Adams backs new signing Jake Jervis to be a smash hit for the club in the Scottish Premiership.

After missing out on the 22-year-old Portsmouth striker in the New Year window, Adams was thrilled to land his man this week on a pre-contract.

With Gary Glen being freed and loan players Jordan Slew and Filip Kiss amongst those having left the club, Jervis comes in as the second summer signing after wide midfielder Joe Cardle came in from Championship side Raith Rovers.

Jervis was released from League Two club Portsmouth after having spent time at Turkish club Elazigspor and County won the race for his signature against rivals from south of the border.

He has also been on loan at a number of English clubs including Notts County, Swindon Town, Preston North End and Carlisle.

Adams feels now is the time for the six-foot three-inch striker to show what he can do in Staggies colours in Scotland’s top-flight.

He explained: "We’re delighted to sign Jake and he will bolster our attacking options alongside Joann Arquin and Steven Ross who is back from Brora Rangers with still a year left on his contract.

"We tried to sign him in January, but he went to Portsmouth. He’s been on loan at several clubs, but he’s scored goals wherever he’s been. This is a chance for Jake to impress at Ross County and become settled here. He has a good presence, he’s quick and he can score goals."

A number of players are in talks with County as the manager seeks to deal in the key men who secured a third successive Scottish Premiership season for the Staggies.
