CALEY Thistle manager John Robertson praised the impact James Keatings has made at the club saying he has filled the gap in midfield that was left by Liam Polworth.

Keatings starred in the 3–1 win against Queen of the South on Tuesday night, scoring a free kick and creating James Vincent's opening goal to move them four points clear in second place.

Liam Polworth left Caley Thistle last summer to join Motherwell and has played a huge part in the Fir Park outfit reaching third place in the Premiership.

But Robertson says Keatings has achieved a tough task to follow Polworth by creating goals for his team mates as well as finding the net himself.

“We lost Liam Polworth at the start of the season and he was responsible for creating around 20 goals for us.

“Keatsy has scored seven and had 14 assists this season so it shows how vital he is to the team.”

Continuing his praise of Keatings, Robertson said: “He has played more football for us this season than he has in the last three years.

“You can see that when he is in the mood he causes all sorts of problems.

“His goals and assists have been crucial for us."
