Darren O'Dea is being widely tipped as the heavy favourite to become the next manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

The 36-year-old, who is the manager of Celtic B in the Lowland League, is believed to be the front runner to take over from former boss Billy Dodds who was sacked on Sunday.

He is the odds-on favourite with the bookies to become the next manager of Inverness Caledonian Thistle, who are currently sitting bottom of the Championship.

Inverness Caledonian Thistle are set to hold talks with prospective candidates by the end of this week as they look to make a swift appointment.

O'Dea, who won 20 caps with the Republic of Ireland, played with Celtic between 2006 and 2012. During his time there, he moved on loan to Reading, Ipswich Town and Leeds United.

He then played across the world at Toronto FC in Canada and Matalurh Donetsk in Ukraine before heading to England to play at Blackpool and moving to India to play at Mumbai City.

He then returned to Scotland in 2016 to play at Dundee before finishing his playing career at Lowland League club East Kilbride.

He started his coaching career with Motherwell Under-18's before moving to Celtic to coach their under-21's in 2019 and becoming manager of the Celtic B team in 2021.

Greenock Morton manager Dougie Imrie is also considered among the main candidates for the job.

The 40-year-old former winger played for Inverness Caledonian Thistle between 2008 and 2010 and after his playing career finished became manager of Greenock Morton in 2021.

Morton have had a poor start to the season as they find themselves in eighth place with just one win in five games.

Chief executive Scot Gardiner has said Inverness Caledonian Thistle would be prepared to play compensation to have someone who they believed would be the right man in charge.

Former Caley Thistle midfielder Liam Fox, who is believed to be unattached, is also considered a potential contender for the role.

Fox (39) who played at Inverness between 2004 and 2006, was manager of Dundee United but only lasted 22 games between September 2022 and February 2023.

Other names being linked with the position include former St Johnstone manager Callum Davidson and ex-Hearts manager Robbie Neilson.

It is not expected a decision will be made before Saturday's clash between Inverness and Dundee United at the Caledonian Stadium.

Sporting director John Robertson and head of youth development Charlie Christie will take charge of the team on an interim basis, but have both been ruled out of taking over on a permanent basis.
