Inverness teenage sensation claims gold medal at major championships in Birmingham

LOIS Macrae continued her outstanding form when she won gold at the 1500 metres at the England Athletics Under-15 Open Championships in Birmingham.

The Millburn Academy teenager proved too good for the chasing pack when she recorded victory in a time of four minutes and 36.70 seconds.

She was over two seconds ahead of Violet Rudkin of Wreake and Soar Valley in 4:39.03 with Jorjia Murch of Barnet in third place in a time of 4:39.39.

Macrae continued her incredible form from when she was crowned Scottish Under-17 800 metres champion in Grangemouth two weeks ago.

Lucas Davidson also competed at the Open Championships when he finished in seventh place in the 200 metres with a time of 23.82.

He also finished in ninth place in the 100 metres.

Inverness Harriers also celebrated success in the RAM League final in Aberdeeen.

Angus Davren, Robin Sneddon, Liam Daly and Scott Fraser ran 43.33 to win the men’s 4 x 100m relay.

The time is a new club record by 0.39 seconds as well as a new league record by 0.61 seconds.

Mhairi MacLennan set a new Inverness Harriers women’s half marathon record of 71:26 at the Antrim Coast Half Marathon in Northern Ireland on Sunday.

She was the top performing Scottish female athlete and was competing in her first half marathon.

Luke Davidson and Angus Smith were in action at the Monument Mile in Stirling.

Davidson ran 4:06 for the mile with an official split of 3:48 at 1500 while Angus was timed at 4:11 and 3:55.

Marvellous Igbinidu represented Scotland at in the 4x100m Wales Athletics Under-20 International.

Katie Meek is in the Scotland squad for the Scotland in the U17 Junior Home International Hill Race in Peebles on September 10.
