Konkel has been a staple of the international scene since making her debut in 2013, and played all three matches at last October’s World Cup in New Zealand.

Despite undergoing surgery last month, she is one of 21 forwards named in the squad by head coach Bryan Easson.

There are also seven uncapped players in the squad, five of whom recently took part in the first ever Celtic Challenge competition.

It is something of a fresh start for Scotland as a new World Cup cycle begins, and Easson is looking forward to the challenges awaiting them in the Six Nations.

“We are entering a fresh, exciting period for the Scotland Women programme, with professional contracts in place, new faces to the squad and management team and a new Rugby World Cup cycle beginning,” he said.

“It was fantastic to get the Celtic Challenge competition under way back in January and a number of younger players have rightfully earned their spot in the squad after some impressive performances across the four games.

“We have a good mix of experienced and younger players, so I’m excited to see what the group are capable of over the coming weeks.”

Scotland kick off their campaign away to England on Saturday, March 25, followed up by a home match at the DAM Health Stadium in Edinburgh against Wales on April 1.

That will be the first of three home games for Scotland in this year’s competition, and they will also host Italy and Ireland throughout April, with the remaining away day coming against France on Sunday, April 16.

The Scots will certainly be looking for an improvement on last year’s performances, which saw them lose all five matches on their way to finishing bottom of the table.
