Inverness orienteers enjoyed a string of successes at the 2023 Scottish 6 Days event held in Moray.

The Scottish 6 Days is the largest orienteering event in the UK and attracted around 3000 competitors to the north of Scotland.

Competitors from under 10 to over 85 years old took part in a series of orienteering challenges at Lossiemouth, Darnaway, Roseisle and Culbin forests.

Among the achievements for Inverness Orienteering Club (INVOC) were an overall first place for Valerie Springett in the W75S category, while Siggy Craig-Gould came first in M45S.

There were also third-placed finishes for Oscar Shepherd (M20L), Euan Naismith (M45S) and James Laird (M55S).

Douglas MacDonald also took a first place on day 4 in the M14A category.

INVOC president Laurence Cload said: "What a great achievement for 58 members of Inverness Orienteering Club to take part in the Scottish 6 Days orienteering event in Moray, with nine top-10 places overall. I was also pleased to see three generations of some families taking part."

The 6 Days event was organised by neighbouring club Moravian Orienteers. Event organiser and Moravian Orienteers member Elizabeth Furness said that competitors of all ages and abilities came from as far away as Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

She said: "Moray 2023, Scottish 6 Days was a great success with a bumper number of entries including locals who came along to experience a major event.

"There was so much positive feedback including about the beauty of the area and the flower displays at Grant Park in particular."
