Inverness Orienteering Club claimed second place at a national junior competition held near Stirling – only the third time the club has achieved this position.

The Jamie Stevenson Trophy (JST) is Scotland’s junior inter-club competition and acts as a fundraiser for the Scottish Junior Orienteering Squad (Scotjos).

The Inverness club – better known as INVOC – were beaten to top spot by Forth Valley Juniors, who claimed the JST trophy for 2023 with 598 point to INVOC's 592.

However, there was consolation for INVOC, as the club won the most supportive "large club" prize – largely thanks to the home-made eagle costume created by Angus Laird.

The juniors, along with six adults, travelled south for a training day at Falkirk last Saturday, in preparation for the JST event at Plean Country Park the following day.

Children from 11 clubs around Scotland attended the competition, which begins with a parade of the teams with their club flags.

Medals were awarded to the top three boys and girls in each colour-coded category.

INVOC medallists were: Jolyon Picton – 3rd Yellow Boys; Clara Davidson – 3rd Yellow Girls; Archie Webster – 1st Orange Boys; Ellen Ash – 2nd Orange Girls; Lily Carter – 3rd Orange Girls; Henrik Borrowman – 2nd Lt Green Boys; and Angus Laird – 3rd Green Boys.
