Inverness karate athletes win bronze at British Grand Slam in Cumbria

Karate athletes Jamie Borthwick and Sophie Howarth both won bronze for Scotland at the British Grand Slam in Cumbria.

Howarth beat several athletes from England, Wales, Ireland and Scotland to win bronze in the female senior event.

Borthwick (14) also won bronze in the male Cadet event as he won his first Scottish Cap

Both athletes are members of Karate Alba in Inverness and sensei Dolina Ross says it was a terrific performance by both athletes.

"This was an excellent start to the year for Sophie and Jamie.

"They are now on a pathway for elite Karate athletes training in Stirling every month in addition to all their hard training in Inverness."
