Inverness golfer takes on best young players in the world

Inverness golfer Fraser MacKenzie proved that he is among the best players in the world for his age group after an excellent performance at the IMG Junior World Championships in the United States.

The youngster finished in 11th place in the Boys 11-12 age group at the tournament which took place in San Diego, California last week.

MacKenzie was among a field of 150 of the top junior golfers from across the world.

He was involved in fierce competition during three days of action at the Morgan Run Resort and Club.

During the tournament. MacKenzie opened the competition with a steady performance as he finished his first 18 holes with a 73.

In his final two rounds, MacKenzie performed even better as he recorded impressive scores of 70 to finish on -3 under overall with a final score of 213.

American golfer Richard Ding won the Boys 11-12 age category with a score of -15 and was six shots ahead of the rest of the field.

MacKenzie was the top performing European golfer in the Boys 11-12 section at the World Championships.

He was one of only 20 players in his category to finish the tournament under par.

The event had a qualifier which was organised by British Junior Golf Tour and was held at Cambridge Country Club.

MacKenzie is seen a rising star of Scottish junior golf and started playing the sport when he was three years old.

He regularly practices as a junior member at Inverness Golf Club, Kings Golf Club and Nairn Golf Club.
