Ryan Christie and Stuart Armstrong have been named in the provisional Scotland squad for Euro 2024.

Christie has been a fixture in the national set-up for years, and is in line for his second appearance at a major international competition after being named in Steve Clarke’s preliminary 28-man squad.

Coming through the ranks at Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the 29-year-old would go on to play for Celtic, Aberdeen and Bournemouth, where he currently features in the English Premier League.

He would break on to the international stage in November 2017, being handed his debut in a friendly against the Netherlands by former Ross County manager Malky Mackay.

Notably, Christie would score a crucial goal the last time Scotland reached the Euros – finding the net against Serbia in the play-off that sent Scotland’s men to their first major competition in more than two decades.

Should he feature in both of this summer’s warm-up games against Gibraltar and Finland, Christie could win his 50th cap in the Euro 2024 opener against tournament hosts Germany.

He is joined in the provisional squad by Inverness-born Stuart Armstrong, who also made his senior international debut in 2017 despite having received call-ups as far back as 2013.

Although never having played for Inverness, Armstrong has turned out for Dundee United, Celtic and most recently Southampton in England’s top two divisions – where he is set to contest a play-off final against Leeds United this weekend in a bid to return to the Premier League.

The 32-year-old was also included in Clarke’s squad for Euro 2020, and scored a crucial goal in qualifying for this summer’s tournament in a 3-3 draw with Norway at Hampden Park.
