Inverness Caledonian Thistle remain in the relegation play-off zone as they failed to beat Dunfermline Athletic at the Caledonian Stadium.

Billy Mckay saw his penalty saved in the first half in what was the home team's only shot on goal in a disappointing clash.

They are two points from safety with Dunfermline Athletic dropping to eighth place in the table after results elsewhere tonight.

However, Inverness have moved seven points clear of Arbroath at the bottom of the table after they were thrashed by Queen's Park 6-0.

Inverness were gifted a golden opportunity to take the lead early in the first half when they were awarded a penalty.

Cammy Kerr was brought down in the box by Dunfermline defender Paul Allan as referee Gavin Duncan pointed to the spot.

But they were denied taking the lead when Billy Mckay's spotkick was blocked by Deniz Mehmet to keep the game goalless.

Dunfermline should have scored on the stroke of half time. Alex Jakubiak beat the offside trap and ran past goalkeeper Mark Ridgers. His shot looked to be heading into the net but Danny Devine cleared off the line as the two teams went into the break goalless.

Dunfermline had a chance to take the lead early in the second half when Matthew Todd was allowed to surge into the box unchallenged, but hit wide of the post.

Inverness responded and came close to the opener when Sean McAllister's corner found the head of Devine in the box but he nodded wide of the right post.

Neither team threatened to find the net in an evening which was lacking in quality as Inverness will be looking for improvement when they head to Greenock Morton.
