The North of Scotland Cricket Association end-of-year award winners have been confirmed, with strong representation from Inverness clubs.
Northern Counties lifted the Senior League title, so it was perhaps no surprise to see them take four of the individual senior award.
Lewis Pacey had the best bowling average when the season ended, while captain Will Ford was the best wicket keeper and Shaun Thomas won the Tim Cook award for best all rounder.
Finally, young leg-spinner Shannon Thorp was named Nosca’s young player of the year.
“That’s a great haul for the club,” Ford said.
“I didn’t think we’d done that well, but I know the boys had a really good year – especially Shaun. Shannon was outstanding too, but I wasn’t sure about the others.
“I’m pretty sure we would have had a few guys in the top 10 for batting too, at least four or five, which is good.
“We probably had a few bowlers up there as well with Nuwan Eshwara and Daniel Impey, so it has been a good year for everyone.
“At the end of the year, I want everybody to celebrate individuality as well as the team, but through the year I always stress that all that matters is the team winning.
“If you do that game-by-game the end of the season takes care of itself, and this year that seems to have worked. It’s a nice way to cap off a title-winning season.”
Other award winners in the Senior League were Pal Dhami from Forres, who won both the batting average and batting aggregate award. The same club’s Steve Barron had the highest bowling aggregate, while Elgin’s Rob Quilliam was senior player of the year.
In the Reserve League, Highland’s perfect campaign was also replicated in the awards, with Giridhar Ravi being named player of the year, Ramesh Raja boasting the best batting average and Buckie’s Mark Webster having the best bowling average.
