Inverness City Boxing Club are set to take on fighters from Cumbria in a special event which is scheduled to take place on Saturday night.

Athletes from Workington Town Boxing Club are set to travel to the Highlands to take on some of the top talent from Inverness City Boxing Club at the Drumossie Hotel in Inverness.

In addition, boxers from Dundee are also set to travel to Inverness to take on boxers from Workington Town Boxing Club.

The event tomorrow night was also meant to feature boxers from other clubs based in Cumbria.

But due to extreme weather conditions which have hit North-West England in recent days, some clubs have pulled out.

However, Workington Town Boxing Club have confirmed that they will still be travelling north.

Inverness City Boxing Club head coach Laurie Redfern says while it was disappointing some clubs have pulled out of the evening, is still looking forward to the event on Saturday night.

He believes the event will be a good test for his athletes against quality opponents from Workington Town Boxing Club.

Redfern confirmed: “Our fighters will be taking on athletes representing Workington Town Boxing Club on Saturday night.

“There were also supposed to be other clubs from the Cumbria area coming up to compete but due to weather conditions they can’t attend and only Workington Town will be represented.

“It is also good representatives from Dundee will be taking part in contests on the night.

“We are looking to have around eight fights during the evening and it promises to be a great event on Saturday night.

“The Drumossie Hotel is always a great venue and the boxers love competing there, so it will be a great night.

“I think that it will be a good test for our boxers to compete against good fighters from Workington.”
