INVERNESS City Boxing Club saw a number of its athletes shine at its tournament show held at the Drumossie Hotel last Friday.

A number of athletes were making their debut in the ring with 12-year-olds Nathan Munro and Robbie Johnstone kicking off the night in an exhibition bout and showing they have a bright future in the sport.

Nairn boxer Tom Rennie didn’t let himself down in his first bout against Amir Sayahkihany from Glasgow Boxing Academy.

Sayahkihany attacked from the bell, but Rennie put up a good defence at the start before landing a left hook which sent his opponent down as the referee stopped the contest.

Megan Mackay also impressed on her debut but lost on points against Erin McCormack from Glasgow whose experience told during the contest.

Mary Magillvary from Inverness showed potential when she attacked from the start against Lauren Jones from Glasgow Academy and her ferocity proved too much as the referee stopped the contest after the third round.

In a close contest, Jamie Allison took Hayden Dott the whole way, but Dott was given the decision by judges.

Robert Patterson’s contest against Harry Gregory also went the distance, with Gregory getting a 3-2 decision for the win.

Jonathan Kamphan put in a dominant performance as he was given a 5-0 decision over Kobi Connolly and was named best Inverness boxer on the night.

Ashley Teagle gave Glen Addison a good contest but was not given the decision by judges.
