MISTAKES are costing Inverness City dear at the moment according to player/manager Jordan MacDonald.

The City boss took responsibility for one of the slip-ups which contributed to the Highland capital side’s 2-1 defeat to North Superleague opponents Banks o’ Dee at Lister Park on Saturday – in the first-ever Superleague game played in Inverness.

But MacDonald remained upbeat. He said: "When we make mistakes we get punished, but when other teams make them we can’t seem to punish them. But it will definitely come. It was very hard to pick anything negative about the boys after the game – they are doing everything that is asked of them."

He added: "Obviously its results what matter, but we have been encouraged by what the players have being doing so far."

Looking ahead to Saturday’s trip to play Dyce Juniors, he stressed: "It will be another tough one. But these are the sort of games we went up to the Superleague for."

City still have their injury worries with a number of key players missing.

But on a positive note, long-terms injury victim Gary Miller made a welcome 20-minute appearance as a substitute last Saturday.

City made a disastrous start to their Superleague match against Banks o’ Dee when they conceded a goal after just four minutes.

MacDonald was short with a pass back and Jindrich Biskup raced clear to score.

However, City gradually got to grips with the match, and Kelvin MacKenzie levelled with a cross-cum-shot which flew into the far corner of the net.

But another defensive lapse with 12 minutes left cost City the match. Steven MacGregor slipped while attempting to clear and Keith Horne swept home what proved to be the winner for the Aberdeen side.

*** City go to East Superleague side Bonnyrigg Rose in the first round of the Scottish Junior Cup on Sept 27.
