Inverness Caledonian Thistle will not be throwing in the towel on earning promotion from the Scottish Championship this season, according to goalkeeper Cammy Mackay.

Away at Hamilton last Friday night, he was the quieter of the two goalkeepers, but did have to make three saves that proved important as Inverness picked up a point.

While he could be pleased with his individual contributions, not being able to claim victory against the Accies extended ICT’s winless run in the league to 10 matches.

With the Caley Jags sitting third in the Championship, they are seven points behind Kilmarnock and leaders Arbroath – who have the added advantage of a game in hand over their rivals at the top as the end of the season comes into view.

Given the form they are on, there may well be teams behind Inverness looking at their place in the play-off spots as a vulnerable one.

Mackay, however, is adamant that everyone at the Caledonian Stadium will be doing everything they can to go up one way or another.

“The title race is a tough one to speak about just now considering the run that we’re on,” the 25-year-old, who has had loans at Elgin and Brora, reasoned.

“We just need to take it game by game and concentrate on getting three points, which will hopefully kick us into a better run.

“It’s nice to talk about a title race, but we just need to concentrate on ourselves and concentrate on getting that win, and hopefully that can boost us up the table a wee bit.

“I think you’re always looking at the other teams. Teams always go on a last-ditch run in this league, so you are kind of always looking over your shoulder.

“The boys are staying as positive as they can though, and a performance like Hamilton shows that we’re not throwing in the towel.

“We are fighting in every game, we might just need a little bit of luck.”
