The Staggies have asked permission from Caley Thistle to speak to the 24-year-old to join the Premiership club.

But Caley Thistle manager John Robertson says they have received no confirmation that Donaldson has agreed a deal with the Dingwall outfit.

"They have asked permission to speak to him and they are duty bound to inform us if they have reached an agreement," he said.

"We have not heard that officially.

"Whether they have or haven’t he is an Inverness Caledonian Thistle player until such time he has signed a deal they have to pay for him.

"If not, he will continue to play for us and keep our promotion push going forward."
