HEAD coach Billy Dodds hailed Daniel MacKay as scary after a superb performance from the attacking midfielder saw Inverness Caledonian Thistle defeat Raith Rovers 2–0 in Kirkcaldy.

MacKay, who is back at Inverness on loan from Hibernian this season, was the top player at Stark’s Park on Saturday.

He won a penalty for Scott Allardice to convert after charging into the box and then set up Billy Mckay in injury time with a great cross from the right wing to seal all three points.

Dodds hailed the performance of the 21-year-old saying that the pace he possesses is a terrifying prospect for any defence to handle.

“Dan is a really important player for us,” admitted Dodds.

“He is so quick in the first five to 10 yards it is scary.

“You have to see him in the flesh, but on the training ground the work he puts in is scary.

“He is hard for defenders to deal with.

“Wingers can get caught up watching full backs, but he worked tirelessly at the back of the park as well as going forward.”

Inverness were only able to name five players on the substitutes bench on Saturday, but Dodds says Saturday’s result shows the level of fitness in his squad.

“It has been a long hard week, the physical effort we put into the Motherwell game was incredible,” he said. “We showed the standard of fitness that is in the squad. We have a small squad but we kept at it.”

Dodds says Raith Rovers made it hard for Inverness and it was a hard earned victory.

“We had to dig in and we had to make sure we worked hard to get into the game. We should have had a penalty in the first half.

“We knew Raith would come at us and they never gave up, they have a team that keeps trying that puts you on the back foot. But I told them if we hit the right pass we will get them.”
