Inverness Caledonian Thistle goalkeeper and club darts champion Mark Ridgers says Queen's Park's win over Dunfermline Athletic the night before pushed Inverness to get a positive result against Ayr United on Saturday.

A 3-1 win at Somerset Park moved Inverness up to seventh place in the Championship and out of touching distance of the bottom two, with Queen’s Park and Arbroath both four points behind.

Goalkeeper Ridgers said after Queen’s Park beat Dunfermline Athletic 2-1 on Friday night, Inverness knew the importance of a positive result at Somerset Park.

The team watched the Queen's Park v Dunfermline game at a hotel, where they also held a darts competition which Ridgers won.

Speaking about the darts competition among the players, Ridgers says he was pleased to come out on top against his teammates.

"We were in the hotel and we were watching the game and had a darts competition and I was busy beating everyone," said Ridgers.

"I won the competition and shut a few people up. Players like Wallace Duffy, David Carson and Morgan Boyes are on the dartboard every day.

"I took my brother's dartboard stand down with us and I cleaned up to win it. I think the world championship inspired a lot of people, and I really enjoyed it."

Ridgers enjoyed the 3-1 win over Ayr United on Saturday more though, and he says they can start looking above them, as well below to see what their results can achieve.

“The last couple of results have not been good enough," admitted Ridgers.

“But it goes to show when teams like Ayr come at us and need a result, we tend to play better against teams like that.

“Our problem is we need to realise we can play good football and can score goals.

“But we need to break teams down more and previous results have shown that we have struggled to do that.

“To get this one gets us away from the bottom a wee bit and start looking up again, but we have to build on this. But it was a great performance from everyone involved as well as myself as I was delighted to contribute to it too.

“We needed to focus on ourselves.

“We know we can score goals and defend well and it can all come together like that.

“When we get forward we can create chances and take them at the right moments.

“It is a good three points for us and sets ourselves up for a couple of big games coming up. We were disappointed with how Tuesday against Airdrie went and now we have a big game against Dundee United on Friday night.”
