Kirsty Deans wants Caley Thistle Women to continue the positivity they felt from taking on Rangers in the Scottish Cup when they return to league action this weekend.

Over 1000 supporters filed into the Caledonian Stadium two weeks ago to see Inverness take on the Glasgow giants.

Although the match ended up in a one-sided 12-0 scoreline for Rangers, there were still smiles on ICT faces after the full-time whistle having pitted themselves against a team full of international players in front of a record crowd for women’s football in the Highland capital.

Now, back-to-back crunch league matches are on the agenda, with second-placed Caley Thistle taking on the teams immediately below and above them – Ayr United away this weekend before hosting unbeaten league leaders Rossvale next week.

The games will be crucial for the Caley Jags’ promotion bid, so Deans wants to capitalise on their Rangers experience to get good results.

“Those are huge games for us to go into, so I think Rangers was a brilliant stepping stone for us to go into those – which does sound bizarre after that scoreline,” Deans said.

“Reflecting back on it we’ve got things to be proud of. We’ve been working a lot on our organisation, and that was something Rangers commented on.

“There were probably times where we could have done a little bit more with the ball and had a bit more composure, but they put you under so much pressure to play so quickly.

“Just having that experience going into playing Ayr and Rossvale, we will have more time on the ball.

“We know we can beat Ayr, and we were really disappointed with the Rossvale result down in Glasgow.

“We were hopeless to be honest, in the first half in particular. In the second half we really came into it and matched hem no problem, we just didn’t score the goals they did.

“Hopefully we can really push on to see if we can get those promotion spots this year.”
