The champions start their campaign in Orkney on Sunday on the opening day of the season and looking to follow up their dominant form from last year.

They won all eight league matches scoring 89 goals and conceding only three.

Peteranna, who also plays in midfield, says the squad has attracted new players but also lost some from last season, but they are still in a strong position to defend their league title.

“We want to win it for the second year in a row as it would solidify our status,” she said.

“With the nature of the squad we had last season, we weren’t sure what our core team was going to be. But as soon as we got new players in our team gelled together and we felt good what our potential was.

“This season, our players have moved around, we have lost some to university, although some will come back to play.

“In every match, we are not sure what players we will have available, but we will always go in with the intention of giving 100 per cent.

“If we want to win the league again, we will have to put everything into the match and take each week as it comes.”

Nine teams are competing in the Highlands and Islands League this season.

Each team will return to playing each other home and away compared to just once last season due to the impact of the pandemic.

Clachnacuddin, who finished second last season, are scheduled to travel to Buckie Ladies.

Nairn St Ninian will be taking on Caithness in Thurso.

Meanwhile, League Cup holders Sutherland Women start their campaign with a county derby against Brora Rangers in Helmsdale.

Kirkwall City have a bye week and will start their campaign on Sunday, March 20.
