Caley Thistle Women can book a semi final spot in their League Cup with a win over Ayr United at Millburn Academy on Sunday.

The Caley Jags have targeted silverware this season, and while they currently sit in the play-off spot in the league they could move one step closer to cup glory.

In formidable form having scored 41 goals in their last five matches, ICT boss Karen Mason is expecting a tougher challenge against Ayr – but knows her side are capable of inching closer to winning a trophy.

“It’s a big game, because this is a competition we have obviously targeted this season.

“We want to get to a cup final, so this is a game we need to perform in.

“It will definitely be a tougher challenge. When we played them up here last time it was a 1-0 win for us.

“These last few games haven’t really given us much competition, with all due respect, so we need to remember that it’s not going to be so easy next week.

“We’re hopefully going to take the confidence that we’ve rightly got to make sure we do what we can against Ayr and get into the semi final draw.”

Should ICT reach the latter stages of their league cup to round off 2023, they could tee themselves up for a very successful end to the season in the new year.

“It’s such a long break now until we actually play in the league again,” Mason added.

“I think our next league game is not until January 21, which is crazy.

“The break is coming at the worst time given how much momentum we have, but if we can keep everyone fit, I’ve said to the girls that there’s no break for us this year.

“We’re going to keep training and pressing on to make sure we don’t lose anything, and we have a few friendlies lined up in December as well to make sure we don’t go into the Scottish Cup game against Rangers cold turkey.

“We’ll keep going until the season starts again.”
