MANAGER Karen Mason has called on Caley Thistle’s women’s squad to “stop the rot” to avoid potentially slipping to the bottom of the SWF Championship table.

After a dramatic opening day victory over Rossvale – who are now top of the table – the Caley Jags have lost three in-a-row.

They will be desperate to end that run away at Dryburgh Athletic this weekend, with the only other north side in the division bottom of the table without a win to their name.

However, should Dryburgh beat ICT they would leapfrog the Highlanders, and such an outcome could send Inverness to the foot of the table themselves.

That would severely threaten Caley Thistle’s pre-season ambitions of being in promotion contention, so Mason is desperate to get another result on the board on Sunday.

“If we lose on Sunday, we’re bottom of the table because they would leapfrog us,” Mason reasoned.

“It’s important not to let the losing streak continue any further.

“Obviously we need to start getting points if we want to keep in touch with the top end of the table.

“It’s really important to win on Sunday and show that we’ve had two weeks to look back and reflect, and we’ve prepared properly for this game, and it’s highly important that we stop that rot.”

Mason has taken a slightly different approach to training over recent weeks by asking players to take on more responsibility for their own performances and development.

“It’s a slightly new approach,” she explained.

“I think they rely on us on the sidelines too much to tell them what they’ve done well, and what they haven’t. If they’re not seeing things for themselves, then that bleeds in to their decision making during games.

“Their problem solving hasn’t been great because they rely too much on voices from the side, so putting that back on them will hopefully make them look a little harder at their own role, and in turn that would make the team better as well.”
