The Inverness City Boxing Club athlete won every round in the bout in Glenrothes on Friday night.

He followed up his victory against Reiss Taylor in Inverness last month in impressive fashion, never looking in trouble in any of the four three-minute rounds.

Turnbull’s coach Laurie Redfern says his fighter produced a powerful performance which has strengthened his reputation in Scottish boxing.

“Calum managed to knock his opponent down in the first round and it looked like the fight was going to be stopped.

“But Merrifield somehow survived and managed to go the distance.

“But Calum was great and he boxed really well.

“It was only his second bout, which can be a nervous fight for any boxer who has just turned professional.
“When you turn professional, you are looking to win all your bouts at the beginning of your career and there is a lot of pressure on your shoulder.

“But Calum never showed any nerves, he looked confident during the whole bout.”

Around 30 fans made the trip from Inverness to Fife to cheer the joiner, whose nickname is Titanium, on to victory.

“The fans that came down from Inverness made it a home from home for Calum,” said Turnbull.

“He was right up for it and nobody can hold him back at the moment.”

Turnbull is now resting up before he competes in his third professional fight, organised by Inverness City Boxing Club at the Drumrossie Hotel in Inverness on June 24.

His opponent has still to be confirmed, but Redfern says Turnbull has already sold 50 tickets on his own.

“The one thing about Calum is we will never worry about fans not turning up as he has a great support behind him.”
