INVERNESS boxer George Stewart has become Scottish Super Featherweight champion after defeating Charlie Doig in Alloa last night.

The 21-year-old fighter has become a national champion for the first time in his career after defeating the Dundee fighter on Friday.

Stewart, nicknamed the Highland Warrior, proved too good for his opponent in the main event of the evening, when the referee stopped the fight in the seventh round.

Stewart remains undefeated in his professional career as he record now stands at six wins with no defeats.

Stewart has been boxing for 11 years and was encouraged into the sport by his father Bruno who is also his coach.

In preparation for the fight, Stewart had been regularly travelling from Inverness to Aberdeen and Glenrothes in preparation for the bout.

Stewart has big aspirations for his boxing career in the future and knows claiming victory on Friday will be a massive step forward for his ambitions.
