Inverness Athletic move back top of North Caledonian League

Inveness Athletic have moved back to the top of the North Caledonian League with a 3–1 win over Alness United at Dalmore Park on Wednesday.

All the goals came in the second half with Athletic breaking the deadlock 11 minutes after the interval.

A well worked corner eventually ended up on the head of Ryan Macleod who nodded home.

Athletic doubled their advantage with 20 minutes remaining when Connel Gresham chased down a poor clearance and managed to float the ball over the goalkeeper Nat Valante into the empty net.

Alness fought back and reduced the deficit to one nine minutes from time, but Athletic killed off the game six minutes from the end when Gresham sprung the offside trap and fired into an empty net.

The win has put Inverness Athletic top of the table on nine points and two points clear of Loch Ness.

Alness United are in ninth place in the league with one win from three games on three points.

Elsewhere on Wednesday night, Golspie Sutherland maintained their 100 per cent record with a 5–2 win over Bonar Bridge.

Halkirk United beat Thurso 3–0 with goals from Andrew Mackay, Aidan Reid and Alan Mathieson earning them three points.

Tomorrow is the quarter finals of the Football Times Cup.

Loch Ness and Nairn County A are set to clash at King George V Park in Fortrose.

Loch Ness have had a great start to the season and remain undefeated.

North Caledonian League champions Invergordon will be looking for their first win of the season when they take on Bonar Bridge at the Recreation Grounds in the Football Times Cup quarter final.

Tain outfit St Duthus travel to The Dammies to face Thurso as both teams will look to make the last four of the competition.

Clachnacuddin A have had a tough start in their return to the North Caledonian League, having lost both of their opening matches and are bottom of the table on goal difference.

They will look to advance to the semi finals of the Football Times Cup when they travel to face Golspie Sutherland.
