Athletic took the lead from the penalty spot after 17 minutes when Ryan MacLeod was fouled in the box. Macleod made no mistake from 12 yards sending Alness keeper David Sienkowski the wrong way for the opener.

Alness equalised just before the hour mark when Joel Burnett fired a powerful effort past Ryan Macleod.

But Macleod, the striker, not the goalkeeper, found the net again to give Athletic the lead when he chipped the ball over the goalkeeper to give them victory.

Speaking afterwards on the Inverness Athletic website, assistant manager David Fraser says they were pleased to come out on top in a close game.

“I don't think there was much in the game to be honest. But it's been a hectic week with boys pulling out, so we are absolutely delighted to come through that and get the three points.”

Clachnacuddin A launched an epic comeback to salvage a point in a 4-4 draw with St Duthus in Evanton.

All the goals came in the second half with Adrian Voigt giving St Duthus the lead after 48 minutes.

Struan Coli equalised in the 65th minute, but Bradi Hulme put Saints back in front two minutes later.

Hulme scored against to make 3-1 to the Tain outfit with 16 minutes remaining and extended their lead to three goals with an own goal to make it 4-1.

But with two minutes left in normal time, Clachnacuddin A launched an epic comeback. Ross Gordon scored in the 88th minute to make it 4-2.

A minute later Finlay Mackenzie made it 4-3 before Arran Thain scored in injury time to make it 4-4 and rescue a point.

Elsewhere, Invergordon defeated Golspie Sutherland 4-2 and Fort William won 4-0 at Bonar Bridge.
