Inverness Athletic fell at the first hurdle of the North Caledonian Cup as they suffered defeat to St Duthus at Inverness Royal Academy.

The Tain outfit took the lead seven minutes before half time when Ben Bruce scored after he pounced on a rebound after Kyle Mackenzie saw his shot blocked.

Substitute Stuart Mackay scored his first goal for the club since signing last month to make it 2–0 on the hour mark.

Inverness pulled one back 15 minutes from time when Liam Symonds found the net, but the hosts were unable to find an equaliser.

St Duthus will face Orkney in the quarter finals.
