Kirkhill athlete Mhairi Maclennan was crowned Scottish Cross Country champion for the third time in her career when she claimed gold at Falkirk.

The 26-year-old Inverness Harrier cruised to victory by 51 seconds ahead of her nearest rival at Callendar Park.

She completed the course in a time of 36 minutes and 36 seconds with Scout Adkin of Moorfoot Runners second in 37:27 and Morag Millar of Central AC third in 37.39.

Maclennan, who is now being trained by Inverness Harriers coach Ross Cairns, was pleased with her performance to secure her third national title.

"I knew that I had a reasonable chance of doing well, but it was really nice to come away with it.

"There was little bits of the course where I was trying to test the waters and see how people were reacting.

"I extended a gap before I meant too, but it was good."

There was also success for Inverness athlete Megan Keith, representing Edinburgh University Hare and Hounds who claimed the under-20's women's title.

There was also gold at under-13 girls' level for Inverness Harriers with Lois Macrae claiming victory beating her nearest rival by 14 seconds.
