Ken Henderson on top to win Whyte Cup in Inverness

KENNY Henderson claimed victory at the Bryan Whyte Memorial Tournament held in Inverness.

The Invergarry darts player claimed the trophy after defeating Martyn Cameron 5–4 in a thrilling final.

Henderson eased into the final after defeating Geordie Davy 4–0.

Cameron had a tougher test in his semi final clash when he was pushed all the way by Darren Sutherland 4–3 in a seven leg thriller.

In the final, Cameron raced to a 2-0 lead but Kenny Henderson dug deep and pulled it back to 2–2.

Henderson they went 4–3 up needing the next leg for victory but Martyn stayed calm and levelled the match at 4-4.

In a thrilling final leg, Cameron got first crack at winning but missed one dart at tops for a 75 checkout and the title.

Henderson didn’t make the same mistake firing in 53 in two darts to add his name to the trophy.

The consolation final was won by Ash Britt defeating Inverness player Liam MacAskill in the final of the competition.

In the doubles competition, James Whyte teamed up with former Scotland captain Ross Montgomery to take the trophy.

They defeated Liam MacAskill and Martyn Cameron in an epic final when they came from 3–0 down to win the title 5–4 as they held their nerve in the final leg.

The 2016 champs had too much pedigree in the last leg and strolled home to take their second title together.

This was Whyte’s third title having also previously won in 2017 with former Scotland World Cup winner John Henderson from Huntly.

A record £2030 was raised for charity over the weekend.

At SoBar, the fourth instalment of the SDA Mens Ladies Tour was unfolding with valuable points up for grabs to the top players who had travelled from all over Scotland to play in Inverness.

In the final of the competition, Scott Robertson took the title for a 6–2 victory over Jamie Bain.

Helmsdale player Nicky Denoon, who plays his league darts for Portland A and won Event 2 at Bannockburn, went out 6–0 to Grampian player Scott Robertson.

In the ladies final Angus player Chloe O’Brien whitewashed Ayrshire’s Lorraine Hyde, 6–0 to take the title.

O’Brien reached the final after a 4–2 victory over Highland’s Courtney McBain whilst Lorraine had taken out Glasgow’s Sophie McKinlay by the same score.
